Soldering Fume Extractor

Project Completed: December 2018

Soldering releases fumes when the solder wire melts. I decided to make myself a fume extractor using spare parts.

I used an electronics fan, plastic enclosure, some leftover air filter material, and a toggle switch to build the extractor. First, I measured the parts and cut holes in the enclosure with a Dremel and a drill press.

I test-wired the circuit, then soldered everything together.

I screwed in the toggle switch and fan (with the fan pointing inwards to pull in fumes), then used some liquid tape to attach the insulation material. The fume extractor was finished!
